How to measure and improve belonging with mentoring
Building a sense of belonging at work, through effective mentoring, is more important than ever. Especially when research shows that less than a third of UK employees feel like they belong at their current company.
Belonging has a huge impact on how people feel in the workplace. It affects how they contribute to their company and how long they stay there.
But how can companies measure belonging, and how can they use mentoring tech to improve it? Our report on the science of effective mentoring delves into the details.
The science behind belonging
Humans are social animals – we want to be part of the herd. We also like to have a purpose in what we do.
With this in mind, Connectr worked with leadership consultant Rita Symons and behavioural science company CogCo to create four principles for successful belonging strategies: distinctive values, shared goals, positive interactions and participation. You can read more about them in our Science of Effective Mentoring Report.
Measuring belonging
It’s critical that companies measure the impact of their belonging strategies, to ensure they’re effective and inclusive.
That’s why, alongside CogCo, we created the Belonging Index: a framework for measuring the efficacy of new belonging strategies. It’s based on a short set of questions that can be answered by employees. Take a look at our Science of Effective Mentoring Report to find out more about how it works.
